Road trip ideas for a college student on a budget?

Budget: $1000 or less Time frame: Early May, approximately 7-10 days Hotel: a cheaper motel in a decent neighborhood, split the cost with two buddies Ideas so far: Austin San Antonio Houston New Orleans Raleigh-Durham Atlanta My top picks are Austin and Houston. Are these good picks? If not, any other suggestions? RockStarDanie: I've never been to the Derby, but not sure I want to fight the crowds. Besides, I like Keeneland better. I don't mean to sound rude, but I live in Kentucky, anyhow (and don't like it, that's why I want to leave for a little while.) Thanks for the suggestion, though.

1. dude, go to Asheville NC. they have everything there. anything you could want. It is SO awesome. okay, it's really artsy and has an awesome culture. plus, you can totally do it on a budget, I do all the time. a hotel for probably 40-50 a night. GREAT restaurants.
2. Very good question! I would suggest the Derby in Kentucky..........and no, you don't have to be in the dressed up, rich area, you can be in the loose, wild, and cheaper area......I'm pretty sure you can get the 'in'field' pretty cheap.......I would go internet looking! Good luck!
