Motel in Austin, TX? Week to week? Month to month? I have just recently started a new job in Austin, and am staying with a friend until the end of the month. I am looking for a clean cheap hotel/motel to stay either week to week or month to month. I know in San Antonio I saw places that charged around 450 for month to month rent. I know Austin has a higher cost-of-living, so I expect it to cost more. I don't know how long it will take me to find a permanent place, but if it's only a little more expensive to pay week-to-week, that would help tremendously towards being able to move into a home once I find the right place. I am right now working in the area of MLK and Airport Blvd, and will be on call some nights, so it needs to be as close as possible. I also have family in SA, so south is preferable to north. Thank you very much for any help you can give me.

What does it take to look after a small hospitality business? I have an offer to look after a small motel place in Austin. This is from an acquaintance who owns it but stays away in another state. I ask this question because i would begin to work again after staying home for a few years. I don't have much knowledge about this (was a teacher before staying at home) but would like to make sure i can handle this before finally accepting the job. Any answers please?

Interested in building a small hotel in SW Austin, how much capital do I need and what do I need to know? I am interested in opening a small hotel in Southwest Austin. With the amount of growth in Circle-C and surrounding areas it always startled me that the only hotels in business are the La Quinta and Extended Stay America near MOPAC and 290, the new Holiday Inn Express in Sunset Valley and the old Texas Motel. With the hundreds of residence in Circle-C, plus Freescale and now AMD moving in, it seems like accomidations are a massive shortage. I would like to capitalize on this, does anyone know what it takes in terms of required capital, seeking approval from the county, etc. I am thinking 290 West in Hayse county or closer in to the "Y" in Oak Hill.

Road trip ideas for a college student on a budget? Budget: $1000 or less Time frame: Early May, approximately 7-10 days Hotel: a cheaper motel in a decent neighborhood, split the cost with two buddies Ideas so far: Austin San Antonio Houston New Orleans Raleigh-Durham Atlanta My top picks are Austin and Houston. Are these good picks? If not, any other suggestions? RockStarDanie: I've never been to the Derby, but not sure I want to fight the crowds. Besides, I like Keeneland better. I don't mean to sound rude, but I live in Kentucky, anyhow (and don't like it, that's why I want to leave for a little while.) Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Help - I need to stay in Central Texas for 1 week!? Okay so my family needs to visit several awesome universities/colleges in the Great state of Texas to help my daughter decide where to go to college. I will need to visit Austin, San Antonio, Waco, College Station, Houston, Dallas & Ft.Worth. I have just about decided to stay in an extended stay hotel probably in Austin. I want to stay somewhere inexpensive ( 50 to 75 per night max for 5 days ) but somewhere I don't have to worry about my vehicle being safe, etc. I understand to avoid east Austin - it seems like Round Rock is an Austin Suburb and very safe? Can anybody offer any suggestions? I have already looked at extended stay motel websites - but obviously they don't answer the questions I really need answered. If there is somewhere else you would recommend - please advise. Any help would be highly appreciated!
Family Entertainment in San Antonio Tx? I am driving to Austin in 2wks. I told my husband lets take a mini vacation and drive the extra 1 1/2 hrs to San Antonio. We will be bringing our 3 1/2 yr old daughter. I know I want to visit the zoo, the riverwalk, the Alamo, and Ripleys believe it or not. We are only going to be there 1 1/2 days, Im tring for 2! We will be getting there about 2pm, and the next day will be a all day thing with the zoo. I am wanting to do as many things as I can the first 1/2 day. Can anyone suggest anything? We are also on a tight budget (under $400!!) Also, what about a motel. I need a cheap one close to the zoo/alamo plaza. If we have to drive a few miles thats fine. When I went to San Antonio when I was 9 with my mom , we stayed at the Alamo Inn (dont ask me how I remember this)! We are needing something pretty cheap under $80 a night.
Plotting a Cross Country Road Trip? In the summer of 09, a friend and I want to take a cross country road trip from the New York City area (where we live) eventually ending up in San Francisco where my mom is from. We have so many questions I don't know where to begin. As long as it won't take us more than 2 months, we are fine. 1.We want to plan it to go through the northern and midwest cities first, Philadelphia, Cincinatti, Louisville, St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis, etc. And through the southern cities on the way back Tuscon, Santa Fe, San Antonio, Austin, New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis, Washington D.C, and finally back to New York. Does anyone know of a good book that will tell us local highways and major roads that aren't US interstates so that this will be possible and we can really soak in the local feel? 2. What is the cost of this going to be? With an energy efficient vehicle, can you estimate what the cost will be for 2 people staying in motels and small hotels, or to stay in parks? Also, it has no effect on driving, i've checked, but what will being 17 do to the trip? Should we bump it back to the summer of '10 so that we are legal adults?

Finally, can you give us any tips that we might need to make it. Things we should see, the mentality we should have. WE UNDERSTAND that most of the country is different from New York and thats one of the major reasons we're going. Also, how helpful is having a large of number of geographically diverse relatives going to be? THANK YOU!
